В сказочном городе, густонаселенном магами и колдунами, живут по правилу: «Чужое сердце забирай, свое не отдавай». Иистория Sugar Sugar Rune поведает нам о двух десятилетних подружках:
Ванилла (застенчива и тиха) – дочь королевы, грезящая открыть кондитерский магазин,
Шокола (задира) – дочь волшебницы которая проживает со своим дедом после смерти мамы.
Героини прибыли в людской мир для испытания. Цель испытания собрать больше сердец и стать по итогам испытания королевой. Люди могут разнообразные эмоции превратить в сердца бесконечно много раз, а вот среди волшебников прибывших в людской мир сердце всего одно, единственное. Поэтому существует правило среди колдунов «запрещено влюбляться в людей». Если такое произойдет, то им придётся отдать свое сердце, за что получат суровое наказание. В их волшебной стране если волшебник полюбит волшебницу, и любовь будет взаимна, то они просто поменяются своими сердцами. А вот если любовь будет однобока, то один из волшебников умрет …
